Confirmation, along with Baptism and the Eucharist, forms what the Church calls the Sacraments of Christian Initiation. These three sacraments work together to build a strong foundation for a full and active Catholic life.

While Baptism begins our life in Christ, Confirmation completes and strengthens it. Through the anointing with sacred chrism and the laying on of hands, we receive a special outpouring of the Holy Spirit. This gives us the grace to grow stronger in our faith, to live it out boldly, and to share it with others.

As the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches:
"By the sacrament of Confirmation, the baptized are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed." (CCC 1285)

If you’re a baptized Catholic who has not yet received the Sacrament of Confirmation—welcome! It’s never too late to complete your initiation into the Church.

At St. Frances of Rome, we offer a path specifically designed for adults who are ready to take this important next step in their faith. The process includes a series of sessions focused on deepening your understanding of the Catholic faith, growing in prayer, and preparing your heart to receive the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

Whether you’ve been away from the Church or have been actively involved but just missed this sacrament, we’re here to support you.

The steps are simple and meaningful—and we’ve outlined them below so you can see what to expect and how to begin.

How Does the Adult Confirmation Preparation Process Work?
Adult Confirmation is for individuals 18 years and older out of high school who have been baptized and received their first holy communion and are seeking to deepen their relationship with Jesus and be fully initiated into the Catholic Church through reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation. Our process is designed to help returning or already active Catholics to strengthen their relationship with Jesus through personal reflection, scripture study, faith sharing, and faith formation. 

What are the Requirements for this Process?
As a part of the process all teens and their families are asked to make the following commitments:

• Attend Mass Weekly
• Attend All Sessions at Church
• Attend Retreats as Scheduled
• Pray at Home
• Be Active in our Parish Community

What Topics Do We Cover? 
The process is designed in a way where individuals are first introduced or reintroduced to the person of Jesus, what it means to have a relationship with Him, and what we believe as Catholics. Then follows a period of more intense preparation in anticipation for the sacrament they will be receiving. During this period, candidates are given further instruction to help them understand what sacrament of Confirmation is and how it helps us to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. 

When Do We Meet for At Church Sessions?
Adult Confirmation is offered twice a year, once in the fall and again in the spring. 

Whether in the Fall or Spring, sessions are held every Sunday for approximately 15 weeks or until the Confirmation Mass is held. Sessions begin with catechetical instruction from from 9:15am to 10:45am and conclude with the 11am Mass. Participants must attend all sessions. On select dates - participants will need to be joined by their sponsor - these sponsor sessions will be noted on the calendar. 

Spanish-Speaking Participants: Adult participants who prefer formation in Spanish will attend sessions from 11:15am to 12:45pm, followed by the 1:00pm Spanish Mass. Attendance at both the session and Mass is required.

• Step 2: Pay the registration fee online or visit the Parish Office to pay by cash or check.
  • Registration Fee = $150/person
• Step 3: Individuals will need to submit their birth certificate, baptism certificate, and first communion certificate to the coordinator at the Parish Office or via email. Married individuals will also need to submit copies of their marriage license.

What Happens Next?
After Labor Day, September 7th, you’ll receive an email with the calendar and other important updates. In the meantime, save these dates, and please be sure to complete the registration process which includes making your donation and submitting the necessary documents if you haven't already done so.
